The season finale of Sons of Anarchy featured the usual amount of complex storylines in the twisted landscape of SAMCRO’s gun running business. New conflicts cropped up that are sure to be a big part of the next season. But while those may have been major plot points, they faded to the back of the mind as soon as the episode’s biggest shocker happened – Gemma murdering Tara.
It would be tough to say that Tara’s death was a complete surprise. The more surprising thing happened earlier in the episode when Jax decided to give up his freedom in order to save her. Audience members who had been looking forward to Jax unleashing hell on Tara for trying to take his kids away might have been disappointed with Jax’s decision, although they can’t be too irritated considering the way everything ended. As for me, I was happy to see that Jax and Tara’s connection led to him taking a step back toward a redemptive path. Plus, I really liked the shock on Patterson’s face when she walked into Tara’s motel room and found Jax sitting there waiting for her. We only had a few scenes between Charlie Hunnam and CCH Pounder throughout the season, but they were all winners.
