Melbourne Heart vs Sydney FC: A-League live scores

Melbourne Heart have had plenty to cheer about both on and off the field and will look to build on their good fortune when they host Sydney FC. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEDT.
Heart fans can finally look to the remainder of the A-League season with renewed optimism following Manchester City’s takeover of the club, to go along with the solid performance on the pitch over the past two weeks.
Their drought breaking 3-1 victory over Newcastle Jets was followed by last week’s very respectable 2-2 draw against the in-form Adelaide United away from home.
Only a very late Ryan Griffiths equaliser managed to stop the Heart from sealing a notable upset over an Adelaide side that is mounting its case for a title challenge this season.
Sydney FC meanwhile also brought their season back to life courtesy of a 5-0 thumping over Melbourne Victory away from home last week.
While Victory’s defence was awful, Sydney did their part and made the opposition pay much to the delight of coach Frank Farina.
The Sky Blues will certainly need to take their chances today against a Heart team building in confidence with each passing match.
The player to watch out for tonight from either side is Sydney striker Ranko Despotovic.
The Serbian forward literally tore Victory’s defence to shreds last week, scoring a goal and winning a penalty en route to terrorising Melbourne defenders Scott Galloway, Jason Geria, Nick Ansell and Adrian Leijer.
Despotovic however may have a much harder time cracking a Heart defence that managed to hold its own against Adelaide away from home last week.
The performances from Sydney stars Nicky Carle and Alessandro Del Piero will also dictate how much damage Sydney can do on the scoreboard against the Heart tonight.
Harry Kewell on the other hand will be desperately keen to perform well for the Heart in a bid to erase the poor penalty attempt he produced against Sydney FC several weeks back.
With this in mind, expect Kewell to play a big part in tearing Sydney’s defence down.
Overall, tonight’s contest should be an evenly fought affair. A fit and firing Carle, Del Piero and Despotovic however may just secure Sydney the three competition points.
