SYDNEY: England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and decided to bat in the third one day international against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
England need to win to keep the series alive after losing the first two ODIs in Melbourne on Sunday and Brisbane on Friday, a seventh consecutive loss to the Australians on a catastrophic tour. They may be relieved that Ashes destroyer Mitchell Johnson is replaced by James Pattinson who is coming back after long-term injury.
Australia, promising no mercy to England after they swept the Ashes 5-0, also named spinner Xavier Doherty in the side in place of Clint McKay. George Bailey has a groin injury and all-rounder Daniel Christian takes over.
For the visitors quick Stuart Broad returns and spinner James Tredwell gets a game. They are replacing speedster Boyd Rankin and Joe Root, who drops to 12th man on the back of miserable batting form.
The teams:
Australia - Michael Clarke (capt), David Warner, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Brad Haddin, Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Christian, James Faulkner, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, Xavier Doherty.
