If Tuesday night was Johnny Manziel’s final game in an Aggies uniform, he gave Texas A&M fans a vintage Johnny Football performance.
Manziel was 30-for-38 with 385 yards and four touchdowns — he also rushed for another score and 73 yards — in leading A&M to a 52-48 come-from-behind win over Duke in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. He also worked a little magic when he turned what looked like a sure loss into a touchdown in the third quarter.
On second down from the Duke 17, Manziel danced and shuffled in traffic before vaulting a defender and dumping a short pass to Travis Labhart, who scored easily for his third touchdown of the game.
“It looked like we had him down three times,” Duke coach David Cutcliffe told The Associated Press. “He’s just strong, so strong.”
“I was in a zone I haven’t been in before,” Manziel told the AP afterwards. “Ever. I just wanted this game.”
Manziel, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, is expected to declare for the NFL draft, but deflected questions about his future after orchestrating A&M’s comeback from a 38-17 halftime deficit.
“I can’t even talk about anything other than this game,” Manziel said. “This was unreal. ... I haven’t mate (the decision) yet. I’m in the moment right now.”
